Moments from Acadia National Park

The weather was typical New England. Bright sunshine, puffy white clouds, thick fog, jewel color sunsets, and cool rain. Some days, it was a smorgasbord of all of them, often followed by foggy or clouded nights. We photographed it all. We light painted when the starlight couldn't be had. Some of us used infrared cameras to visualize the scenery in a different wavelength. We played with ICM and in-camera double exposures. As it often happens in Downeast Maine, the clouds vanish and the stars put on a glorious show. Our last night was spectacular. An incredible starry night.

Astrolandscape photography has many challenges, on the field and even in post-processing. For anyone who has photographed star trails, stacking the frames quickly reveals the multitude of plane trails and space paraphernalia that litter a sky full of stars and the subsequent tedious task of removing them.
