Tomorrow, August 7th is National Lighthouse Day! National Lighthouse Day commemorates the establishment of the first federally funded lighthouse in the United States, approved by Congress on August 7, 1789. The Perseid Meteor shower is now in session and will reach its peak August 12/13. No need to wait for the maximum, they are in full swing now! The Perseids are active from July 13-August 26th. They produce up to 75 meteors an hour. How to photograph meteor showers? For the Perseids, the locus is in the constellation Perseus, near the “W” shape of Cassiopeia to the north, so find a dark spot and face northeast. Use the same settings as you would for the Milky Way to get pinpoint stars.
