Lighthouses. Just the word makes my heart skip a beat.
I’m often asked why I cherish lighthouses so much. I think they are so beautiful and in many ways poetic. They exemplify strength. They face fierce storms and keep the light on. In a way, they are an analogy to how to live life. We all face vicious storms in our lifetime. We have to remember to stand tall and keep the light burning bright.
This book encompasses many years of photographs, mostly around New England. I am not done capturing these beauties yet (by far). There are many more beautiful lighthouses to visit, explore, and gaze at, in New England where I live, and around the world.
Lighthouses are a part of human history. Sadly, many are falling into disrepair as electronic navigation has now become the standard for traversing the seas. Private citizens and lighthouse organizations around the world are dedicated to preserving them and their stories. Through images and stories, inspiration lurches forth. This is a compendium of landmarks fixed in existence, yet seldom pondered.

Kathleen Rooney –
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Silvana Della Camera has a way of bringing you alongside her fascination with lighthouses. She brought these lighthouses to life for me by explaining their history and describing and photographing their beauty. I’ve seen lighthouses and photographed them while on vacation but I will never look at a lighthouse the same way again after reading this book. This book will remain on my coffee table. I highly recommend it.
