To be scheduled based on Milky Way Visibility, ~3 hours on location* plus 3-hour post-processing session via Zoom. This is a 2-part workshop.
Do you currently own a DSLR or mirrorless camera? If so, have you ever marveled at the remarkable low-light capabilities of modern digital cameras? These advanced cameras can capture breathtaking images even in dimly lit conditions. Have you ever contemplated immersing yourself in the enchanting realm of night photography? It’s a captivating and intriguing genre that demands a distinctive approach compared to daytime photography. By mastering the right techniques, you can capture awe-inspiring landscapes adorned with twinkling stars and even immortalize the mesmerizing beauty of the Milky Way. A deep understanding of manipulating your camera settings in low-light environments can unveil a whole new world of photographic opportunities, enabling you to seize the elusive allure of the night sky.
In this two-part Milky Way photography workshop, you will learn how to capture stunning images of the Milky Way. The workshop will cover topics such as camera settings, lens considerations, night photography etiquette, white balance adjustments, exposure, and basic processing. Additionally, the course will explore different types of night light and discuss exposure considerations during blue hour, civil twilight, nautical twilight, astronomical twilight, and night. You will also learn how to stack Milky Way images and enhance the details in the night sky from your RAW images. The course will cover various post-processing techniques and software.
The 3+ hour in-person session plus a 3-hour post-processing online session will cover these topics in depth. Students will gain a solid grounding in Milky Way & general night photography including best practices essential for success.

Important: This is a very weather-dependent workshop. In case of cloudy weather the workshop will be rescheduled. If rescheduled date conflicts with your schedule, you may use the registration fee towards another workshop (Milky Way or other). Please note that several astronomical forecasting tools are used to determine a good night of clarity, but it is not a perfect science. Clarity of the sky can change rapidly. Flexibility is very important when chasing the night skies. If the forecast is good but the actual conditions are not when we arrive at the destination, we will reschedule or move to another location if feasible.
* Location will be selected based on the forecast. Generally, Eastern Massachusetts (including Cape Cod), Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire. The actual shooting location may change at the last minute due to cloud forecast. Location will vary depending on the forecast. Some locations require a fair amount of walking to the shoot location. Some locations are close to the parking area.
** If you are sick or feeling unwell (please stay home), I will gladly reschedule.
