I found Silvana quite by accident. Her website came across my Facebook feed for learning how to take Milky way pictures. She has an abundance of knowledge on astrophotography. Don’t let this intimidate you as I knew absolutely nothing on this before taking my private season with her. She is extremely patience in showing you how to use the proper equipment to focus, how to locate the Milky way (it is hard to see if at all with the naked eye at least for me) and to NOT be afraid of high ISO. She will teach you how to take pictures to stack and then later show you how to do this. The best part, your editing session is all record so you can go back and refer to it again and again. I would highly recommend taking a private session with Silvana. You will learn a LOT. Side note: she has a great personality so it makes it a lot of fun. Don’t think about it, just sign up.
TL:DR review. Take a workshop with Silvana. She’s a pro in the best sense of the term, knows photography, astronomy and how to communicate. Workshops are flexible, take advantage of weather/place/unanticipated circumstances. You can expect good company from others (all willing to make photographs after midnight). Did I mention you’ll make some great images? You will.
Silvana’s workshops are top notch. She is among the most knowledgeable photographers I know. She is the serious photographer’s go to person for all things astro. She prioritizes each participants needs and has an endless amount of experience. I can’t recommend here enough. Thank you Silvana!
I’m a newbie infrared photographer. I converted an unused camera last year but found it difficult to get my photos to look as I wanted them. Now I understand the reasons I was struggling so badly. This book helped me so much in how I approach a scene and especially with developing my images. I am now using my IR camera constantly. Thank you!
I highly recommend this workshop, which I attended in Spring 2025. Silvana knows the Cape and she has everything planned out to make the most of time we were there. When the weather wasn’t cooperating for a Milky Way shoot, we headed to Nauset Light and made some spectacular images in the fog. She taught us a number of techniques to make great images (e.g ICM) and on the night that we did get clear skies, how to make perfect Milky Way shots. There was a follow-up Zoom session for processing, which was helpful. I like that she doesn’t overprocess photos, resulting in a realistic image. She explains technical concepts (in the field and in processing) in a clear, understandable manner. I wish I lived closer to take advantage of the many photowalks and workshops she offers in the New England area.
